What to say to patients

“The purpose of this exercise is to strengthen a particular muscle called your soleus. The best position to do this in is sitting. It is vitally important we improve its strength because it produces most of the force when you are running. In fact, we have to load the muscle a lot to mimic the loads that occur during running which can be up to eight times your body weight! Having said all of this we also have to do this slowly and steadily so as not to overload your tendon too quickly.”
