L2: What the patient can expect

What the patient can expect

Patellofemoral pain can be difficult to address and responses can be variable depending on whether the appropriate muscles are being targeted. It is suggested you prescribe the exercises as a trial for six weeks (the majority of studies use this length of time)3 and ensure the patient is experiencing relief during this time. If the patient does not respond you may need to address other areas.

While the patient may feel some discomfort after performing these exercises they should not aggravate the patient’s condition. If they do it is either a technique problem or the patient is not ready to perform them.
