What to say to patients

“It is important we start to load your tendon and increase the strength of your calf muscles. This is essential for your recovery.”

“When you injure your tendon your body tries to protect it by reducing the signals from your brain to the surrounding muscles. This is because the less the muscles pull on the tendon the less pain you will experience. This is all well and good in the short term but over time you need to retrain the tendon so it can withstand the loads you intend to put on it in the future. This can be achieved by using progressive exercises.”
